Cadence not shown at all
Hi,
I'm using the Bosch Flow app and my Garmin Fenix 6x to display my bike rides. Unfortunately I'm not able to display the cadence on a combined file. I can display the cadence in the original Garmin and Flowapp file but the cadence is disapearing in the combind file. The power is shown so the basic import works.
maybe I make a mistake - you have any tips or tricks?
Thanks for your help
Regards
Rainer
I have add the reponding files

Re: Cadence not shown at all
Rainer-
When you export the combined file from gotoes, are you exporting as the GPX format? If so, please switch to TCX or better yet, FIT. GPX does not support cadence. Strava does accept a special format (which gotoes uses) to override the fact that GPX does not support cadence… but no other platforms can read this special encoding within a GPX file. FIT is the best format for interoperability.

Hi
the export format is .FIT!
Rainer
I think maybe a bug in Garmin import?

Fit From gotoes? I just tried exporting your merged files, and saw cadence.

Re: Cadence not shown at all
just did some test's if I export the file in garmin (.FIT) and import again the cadence is shown. If I merge with gotoes garmin and Flow and export as .FIT and import in Garmin again the cadence is not shown anymore.
Re: Cadence not shown at all
Ahh, I see. You are correct: with Garmin, the cadence disappears, but with Strava, the cadence is interpreted. I looked at the file exported by gotoes (raw source) and the cadence is in the file. The problem is with the session data; there is some minor corruption in your source file in the session field, and that is being transferred to the end output from gotoes. I believe it is causing a very minor frame shift error, and the (odd) symptom is that Garmin isn’t showing the cadence. This isn’t a bug with gotoes per-se, but actually corruption in the source files. In fact, when I upload to gotoes, it indicates that there was minor corruption in one of the files. Having said all of that, gotoes should be able to properly repair this minor corruption. When I get home (I’m on the road right now) I will dig deeper into the cause of the corruption, and I will train the gotoes algorithm to be able to detect and repair this type of problem. It might take a few days because I’ve been gone from home for a while. Thanks!

Re: Cadence not shown at all
Hi
I have news on this topic.
My Garmin Fenix 6 got an update last week to V28.02 and with this firmware it looks like it works. I still get the minor faults during import but now everything is displayed including cadence - see picture
I do some more tests the next couple of days and we will see.
so far thanks a lot and I will let you know - if you need the "new" files contact me.

Re: Cadence not shown at all
Thanks! I appreciate you updating me, as your issue was something I was going to puzzle over in the next few days! Since this seems to be a temporary bug introduced by Garmin, I might de-prioritize the issue. Regardless, I still plan to eventually work on it because the whole purpose of having GOTOES re-write files from scratch is to prevent corruption going from the source files to the output files. Really appreciate your followup.

Re: Cadence not shown at all
Hi Fulmar2,
so I come back to you again - I did some tests with my configuration and I found out it's not working all times. I have now an example with the same problem discribed in the first post. Could you please be so kind and priorize this topic again? If I could support you with files etc. pleas let me know.
Thanks a lot
Rainer

Re: Cadence not shown at all
I did some research on this and discovered that this (like so many of the other problems I encounter on Garmin Connect) is a known issue on Garmin Connect (NOT a GOTOES bug, which is why you do not see this on other platforms).
So, the solution is to log into your Garmin Connect and correctly set the activity type. In your case, that would be "eBiking" (see Screenshot below).
Garmin is detecting your activity as "Other," and that type of activity does not have cadence. I double checked the output file sent by GOTOES and GOTOES codes the sport as "21," which corresponds with "eBike"... NOT "Other". So, to clarify, Garmin Connect is incorrectly interpreting your activity as "Other" and as a result, not displaying the Cadence Graph.
Alternatively, you could also change your activity type to cycling or some other activity type before uploading to Garmin Connect if you don't want to make the change in Garmin Connect itself. Meanwhile, I encourage you to report this bug to Garmin Connect. You may refer them to this thread. You can tell them that files with "Sport" set to "21" and "Sub-Sport" set to "0" are being detected as "Other" when they should be detected as "eBiking." All other platforms such as Strava, intervals.icu, and Training Peaks are interpreting the GOTOES file correctly.
