Can't edit the time ranges

Post by spitfire_ch »

Hi, I am trying to merge the heart rate recorded with my Garmin watch with a ride recorded with my ergometer (Nohrd Bike). The problem is, that for unknown reasons, the time ranges of the two activities don't overlap - the ergometer activity starts after the garmin activity has finished. I guess it sets the start time to the time when the activity was uploaded to Strava instead of when it was truly recorded. So, I tried to edit the Start / End Times of one of the two "activities" in order to make them overlapping. But: it does not work. When I select "Trim", I can type into the time fields, but whenever I leave the field, it reverts back to the original value. I believe it has to do with the message "must be ... or ealier/later". Is there any way you can not just trim the time, but move the time of one activity to match the other? Actually, I would simply like to take the time from the ergometer and ignore the time from the watch altogether.

Thanks a lot for your help!

It sounds like what you are trying to do is a "time shift". My guess is that what happened is ONE of your devices has the wrong time setting. Time is updated automatically when a device connects to a GPS signal, so maybe your Nohrd Bike has the wrong time setting? Or, perhaps your Garmin hasn't connected to satellites in a while and it has the incorrect time? Regardless, the tool to fix this is here:

https://gotoes.org/strava/Add_Timestamps_To_GPX.php

Upload the file that has the wrong time, and select the "Time Shift" checkbox. Enter a start time in the Activity Start time (one that matches the time of the correct device). Make sure you have the correct time zone set too.

You don't need to enter a desired Average Speed or Elevation for a time shift. Those will be grayed out for a shift.

Export the shifted file, and the use the shifted file to merge with the one that had the correct time. They should overlap if you entered the start time and time zone correctly.

Excellent, thank you very much! I wasn't aware the adding timestamp feature also supports timeshifts! I will try that!

The Nohrd bike app is running on the smartphone, which has the correct time, so does my watch. I guess it's a bug in the app using the upload time instead of the record time. But using this feature, I should be able to fix that, thanks!

If it is off by an exact number of hours, it could be a time zone setting as well. It would still be a bug that you need to report to them, but that may help them diagnose it.
