FAQ: How to combine separate activities into one MultiSport File (Triathlon or Duathlon)
Posted: Tue Dec 10, 2024 4:30 am
Garmin Connect now allows users to record multisport activities (such as Triathlons and Duathlons) in one single file. Then, you can see the result as one single activity in Garmin Connect as displayed below:
When you click on any of the icons (circled in red in my screenshot), you can zoom to focus in on that segment of the activity in Garmin Connect. The entire activity can all be viewed on one page if you click the 3 ring icon. But what if you didn't start recording your activity as a "multisport", and instead manually created a separate activity for each leg of the triathlon? Now with GOTOES, you can put it all back together into one file. Here is how.
Step 1:
Load your files into GOTOES here. Click the "Choose Files" button to choose your individual activities in FIT, TCX, GPX, or CSV format. Then click the blue "Upload" Button.
Step 2:
Change the activity to "MultiSport" by going to the "Activity Type / Sport" Dropdown and selecting "MultiSport"
Step 3:
A window will pop up with options for each segment of the multisport activity. The tool should pre-populate the values as shown in the example below.
Simply choose the correct sport from the dropdown menu. I will change the first activity to "Swimming", the second to "Swim_To_Bike_Transition", and the forth to "Bike_To_Run_Transition"
Once everything has been corrected, you can now click the big blue "Submit" button at the bottom of the inner window.
Step 4:
Once you submit the page, the inner window should close, and you should see that "Multisport" has been added to each of your activities.
If you need to make any changes after-the-fact, you can always click on the link that says "(added)" and edit the values. Note that if you do this now, you will be looking at the raw, numerical data for these items.
Step 5:
In order for this to work, you will need to choose the "FIT" export format. FIT is the only file format capable of supporting true multisport activities. Finally, scroll to the bottom of the page and select "Click Here to combine GPS Files Using Above Parameters".
It is important to note: IF you do this for Strava, Strava will split up your activities again!! This is only for Garmin Connect and other platforms that support multisport files.
