artifact

Post by ogrady »

I've been trying to combined two separate files and am getting a weird artifact. I think this has to do with the timestamps but I'm uncertain how to fix it. I'm doing a long, 740 mile activity, over several years. I've done two segments so far, points B to C in the first year and points A to B in the second year. When I combined the files, I get the correct track. I also get an artifact that takes me from point C to A, I assume because I did A in a later year. Is there a way around this? Thanks!

The way the tool works is that it puts the track points in the order in which they occurred. So, if you did your successive years out of order, then yes, you would see that long straight line connecting them. If, however, you have been working on the route in order (each leg begins where the previous one ended), then that is an artifact. If this is the case, you can repair it by using the “edit points” feature. It is a blue button on the 2nd page. When you click that button, you can actually delete the spurious point.

If the issue is the former scenario instead of the later, the only solution would be to use the time stamp tool to change the date of the “bad” leg so that they all occur in order time wise. Hope that helps!
