Elevation not correct in combined activity

Post by jasonp99 »

I uploaded two activities to GOTOES for combining. Because somehow while I had stopped my watch (vivoactive 3) partway, inexplicably the screen registered two touches so it saved my activity.

The combined track looks correct, and distance. But the elevation seems to have been corrected. On this hike, when I got to top of mountain I climbed a 75ft firetower. The attached snapshot from the original activity shows this elevation change from the ground level. But the combined activity has ignored this extra elevation gain and assumed I was at ground level when climbing the tower.

Any way to fix this? I did select VivoActive3 when doing the import to Strava.

You will have to send me your source files, and I can look to see if the elevation of the tower is actually in your file. My tool does not adjust elevation, so if it is missing, that means that Strava would have adjusted it. Also, when you sent to Strava, did you send as GPX, TCX, or FIT?

Hi. I sent GPX to Strava.

How do I send the files to you? I tried to attach but *.gpx is not an allowed extension.

You will need to use the contact form on my website. Also, please try using TCX or FIT - my guess is that Strava will "trust" the data in a FIT file and not force-recalculate it.

I tried TCX, no change. FIT is locked for me (not a Donor).

For anyone reading this thread, the solution was for me to export from the tool as FIT. It seems as if Strava re-calculates elevation profiles for GPX and TCX files now-a-days (or maybe sometimes?) Anyway, if you export as FIT, and specify a barometric GPS device, this will effectively tell Strava to NOT recalculate your elevation profile.
