Hello,
i wanted to merge 2 Files with your Tool.
1 from my Edge 1030
1 from my Zwift
I wanted to merge them on one Timeline and use all the Data.
Works well so far but the Cycling Dynamics from my activity recorded with the Edge1030 from the Vector 3 pedals are not in the file for some reason.
What do i do wrong?
Thank you for the help
Cycling Dynamics not in File
Re: Cycling Dynamics not in File
Hi Alinski -
I don't think you did anything wrong; as far as I know, Strava does not show cycling dynamics. Did they recently add that feature?
Can you please tell me what file format you are exporting as (GPX, TCX, or FIT)? FIT is the only file type that could contain that type of data, and currently, my tool does not insert cycling dynamics. I recently received a request to insert Training Effect, and I'm thinking about adding that to the FIT export. TCX and GPX do not (and never will) support anything more than the streams I have already added (Power, Cadence, Heart Rate, Speed, Temperature, and Distance). Even so, TCX doesn't support Temperature, and GPX doesn't support any of these, except that Strava lets us use an alternate schema to insert data that was not part of the original schema.
The way this tool works is that it builds a brand new file from scratch. That is why it is also able to sometimes repair corrupted files. The challenge with building from scratch is that the tool needs to read (and perform calculations on) quite a huge mass of data. Besides Cycling Dynamics, there are Swim Strokes, Running Dynamics, etc. The dataset is quite large (especially for people who are trying to combine multiple days of long endurance activities with one-second recording turned on)... and I'm trying to think of ways to manage the server loads and memory usage.
I'll see about researching the possibility of adding Cycling Dynamics to FIT export as I research the possibility of adding Training Effect.
Hope that helps explain things for now.

Re: Cycling Dynamics not in File
Hi Fulmar,
thanks for your reply on my topic. you made a great tool, thank you for that!
to my problem, well the thing is, i wanna have the acitivity in Garmin Connect more then in Strava.
I am a Garmin User and they have Cycling Dynamics impleneted which works pretty good with my Vector 3 pedals.
The thing is, i do run on Zwift during the cold days in Winter and my Zwift activitys are not importing any Training Effect and my FTP.
So i decided to use my Edge 1030 (for Vector 3 data/Training Effect/FTP) and Zwift (rest data of the session) and record 2 Activitys from 1 Session, i wanna merge it into 1 Activity after the End to have the best of both worlds. I would love to use my Data from the Vectors to complete Training Effect and Cycling Dynamics which really helps me to improve. It is sad that Zwift doesnt support Training Effect and FTP from its sessions, so my expensive Vectors are almost useless which is a shame and i try to improve my data with the merging of the files.
I imported both files in *.fit format into your merger Tool. Then I exported it in *.tcx format. I am not a coder so i dont know alot of this things.
What about creating a tool where people can pay and download for a year, so you dont have the data and bandwith problems when they create or merge files, so you could avoid the server load.

Hi Alinski -
I see clearly what you are trying to achieve. So, I think I need to add:
1) Training Effect
2) FTP
Would that be satisfactory? Adding Cycling Dynamics is a bit trickier because it is a steam. I may do it later, but I can probably get FTP and Training Effect Accomplished in the near-term.
In order for this to work you will absolutely have to export as FIT (from my tool)... and in order to get the original information into my tool, you will have to import as FIT into the tool. However, my plan will be to give people an option to override the number manually. That way, if they are importing as TCX, they can still insert these values when I build the final FIT tool. Hopefully those two options will work for the time being. I imagine they are the most important? If you have one more single value needed (not stream), let me know and I'll put that in too. The reason 3's are good is because it will fit neatly in the existing box.

OK, I worked ALL DAY on this project, and think we may have something workable now. Here is what I posted in the release notes:
Now, users can insert Total Training Effect, Anaerobic Training Effect, FTP, Normalized Power, Training Stress Score, and Intensity Factor into the FIT files produced by GOTOES Strava Tools. The fields are pre-populated for Patreons with the highest value from any of the uploaded files. The user can override the numbers as they see fit.
It may still be a work-in-progress, but I think we are off to a good start!
